Early Life

Bill Simon was born in 1927 in Paterson, New Jersey. His father was a successful businessman, but the family lost everything during the Great Depression. Simon's father died when he was 12 years old, and he was forced to drop out of school to help support his family.

Simon worked a variety of odd jobs before joining the Army in 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery.

Business Career

After the war, Simon returned to Paterson and started a business selling used cars. He eventually built his business into a successful chain of auto dealerships.

In 1982, Simon was elected to the New Jersey Senate. He served in the Senate for 12 years, during which time he was a strong advocate for business and economic development.

In 1994, Simon was elected Governor of New Jersey. He served as Governor for one term, during which time he oversaw a period of economic growth and prosperity for the state.

Philanthropy

Simon was a generous philanthropist who supported a variety of causes, including education, healthcare, and the arts. He established the Bill Simon Foundation in 1984, which continues to provide support to these causes today.

Legacy

Bill Simon died in 2000 at the age of 73. He is remembered as a successful businessman, a dedicated public servant, and a generous philanthropist. His story is an inspiration to us all.
